DANUBE SO BLUE – Reframing An Evergreen

Johann.Strauss-Festjahr 2025 x VIENNA SHORTS

It is one of the most famous pieces of music in the world and has also made a lasting mark on film history (e.g., in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey): the waltz The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss II, whose 200th birthday will be celebrated in 2025.

The Johann Strauss 2025 Festival and VIENNA SHORTS are looking for modern and original cinematic visions to reframe the popular evergreen beyond advertising clichés. The music piece can be included in any way; unconventional approaches to music, text, and imagery are welcome.

We ask you to send us a screener first. The screener is a copy of the film we will be using during the selection process. The most practical way is to have a screener online until the end of April (password protected or not, both are allowed). When your film is selected for the festival we will ask you to send us two master copies: one copy we will use for projecting your film on the big screen, one we will use for the video library and/or a potential online presentation.
